MA 2008 Release at Information Publications

Information Publications' Massachusetts Municipal Profiles, which provides a single clearinghouse for data on Massachusetts’ cities and towns, has been praised for its ease of use and convenience. Martha Stone, the Reference Services Coordinator for Massachusetts General Hospital’s Treadwell Library, writes in American Reference Book Annual that "this book will be invaluable in the ready-reference sections of public, governmental, law, and business libraries in Massachusetts, and selectively in similar libraries in other states, as interest demands."

A new edition of Massachusetts Municipal Profiles, updated for 2008, is available now in paperback ($109, ISBN 978-0-911273-38-0) and CD-ROM ($109, ISBN 978-0-911273-39-7) editions. As part of Information Publications' State and Municipal Profiles Series, it is updated annually to provide a single ready-reference source for information on Massacusetts’ 351 cities and towns, including data on Population, Demographics and Socioeconomic Characteristics, Local Officials, Voters and Election Information, Housing and Construction, Property Taxes, Municipal Finance, Police and Crime, Public Libraries, and School Districts.

Information Publications, a California-based reference publisher, also publishes the Almanac of the 50 States, as well as statistical profiles for several individual states, including California, Connecticut, Florida, New Jersey, and North Carolina, with information about every city and county in those states. Publisher Eric Weiner recognizes the need for a single source containing a wide range of reliable data: "There's a lot of information available out there, but it's scattered all over the place, and much of it is hard to find. Weiner says that the books are designed to be useful to many types of readers, including students, reference librarians, attorneys, researchers, government officials, journalists, and real estate professionals. "By bringing such a diverse set of data together in one volume, we save our readers the time and expense of gathering the data themselves."
